Lili had something of a tragic nap the other day, as she sobbed and shuddered herself to sleep in my arms after slipping head first off the side of the couch (where the moms strictly enforce a no climbing rule), and landing cheek, lip, and chin down on the heating vent. Ouch. Given the grill marks and immediate bruising along the side of her face, I was certain she would wake up with a killer headache and a crab apple attitude. After a couple of hours, though, I heard her begin rustling and calling for me, and I went upstairs to sit on the edge of her bed. She immediately crawled on to my lap, wrapped her ratty pink blanket around her shoulders, and began easing into afternoon consciousness. Naturally, this involved lots of chatting, lots of space inventory, and the following conversation:
Lili: "Grandma caught a lion."
Mommy: "Oh, really? Grandma caught a lion? Did Nana catch....a panda bear?"
Lili: "Nana caught a panda bear."
Mommy: "What did Mama catch?"
Lili: "Mama caught a lion."
Mommy: "Oh, Mama caught a lion, too? What did Mommy catch?"
Lili: "Mommy caught...ice cream."
Mommy would.

Mommy would indeed! Must have been some dream the little girl was having!
