The moms got away this weekend, for a very belated ten-year anniversary celebration. Yay, us! If spending a decade (and a good one, at that), with just one person isn't cause for celebration, then I don't know what is (especially when the two people in question happen to be as uniquely mismatched as this Mommy and Mama). Also, Lili has been swearing a blue streak at home, and just happened to refer to us collectively as "fucking assholes" the night before. From the other side of a closed bathroom door. After Mama had provided a pillow and suggested that Lili might want to consider spending the night sleeping on the cold tile floor. You really would not believe our house most evenings.
We left early(ish) Friday morning, did a Lili transfer with Nana at the Big Steer Truck stop outside of Northfield, and headed east. Hunting season was well underway in Wisconsin, so Ajax donned his reflective harness, and Mama and I were provided with a set of very sexy orange vests upon our arrival at the
Teal Lake Lodge. Safety first, y'all. Thankfully, no one was shot during our time chez cabin, not even our blue fawn pup (who could easily have been mistaken for a handsome young buck). Instead, we enjoyed outdated movies on the VCR (two!), resident cabin squirrels who kindly left acorn presents on our California King bed, a wood burning stove and breakfast campfires, and a clear, country night sky carpeted with brilliant stars. Well played, moms. Well. Played.

| Oh, and this totally happened. Wisconsin does not mess around with hunting season. |

And I'm happy to report that time away from the moms seems to have done a Lili good. She has been back to her sweet affable self, and I can see her fighting the good fight when it comes to keeping the f-bomb at bay. Oh, the power of words. What a discovery for these young little minds. Baby steps, baby steps....
