What do birds of prey, Hellenistic pottery, and Stargate: SG1 all have in common? Oddly enough, Mama (not to be confused with Mommy--that's me) has an inordinate amount of knowledge pertaining to each of these subjects...and many, many more. This is what comes from spending most of one's childhood volunteering at the Renaissance Festival, and staying up until 3:00 a.m. watching Nova and/or Nature on PBS. Despite her vast repertoire of potential dinner party conversation topics, however, last evening Mama was able to succinctly narrow her list of "life advice" for our daughter to the following:
1. Brush your teeth
2. Wash your face
3. Drink lots of water
Well said, Mama. To this, I would add:
4. Wear comfortable shoes
5. Eat your vegetables
6. Own a dog. Preferably, a pug.
Anyone else have some sage advice for Ms. Lili?

Excellent advice. I would add - get lots of sleep. That one has served me well.
Go to the park and feed squirrels. Which is code for, be in the moment.
I've come to believe that happiness isn't a thing you achieve or have or hold on to. It's all the magical moments that, when added up, fill out your life.
I recently told my sister (your great Aunt, Cheri) that everything would be alright. This in reference to our mom (your great grandma, Marnie, who is living her last days in a nursing home. So sorry you never got to know her the way we did).
Anyway, I realized that, everything is never alright... not all at once. But while we're navigating our lives (the pleasant and the unpleasant) there are all these wonderful moments to be had.
There are so many, many moments ahead of you... the soothing sounds of decaf brewing, eggs scrambling, and dog claws scritch-scratching across the floor; Christmas-tree lights twinkling on a snow-covered tree; the first day of summer vacation; a great conversation with people you enjoy over a tasty beverage in a comfortable chair; a book that you can't put down; a great hiding place; coming home after being away for two weeks; your birthday party!
Little Lili, you have already given me too many moments to count. Your Mama and mommy too.
