In Memoriam

I'm grateful that Lili had the opportunity to meet two of her great-grandparents, and sad that she will never know them better. On the second day of spring, and the day after my grandfather was buried 2,000 miles away, Mama's clan gathered for an extended coffee shop family meeting to celebrate the legacy of "Old Grandma" Marnie.

"Mama, is this like the mouse that lives in our basement"?

Bang, bang.

Aunt Debbie almost missed her 19-hour flight to Malaysia while waiting for her triple tall non-fat latte.

"Bonjour, oui oui".

"Re-u-nited, and it feels sooo goood..."

No crying in coffee shops. Only snoozing. For two hours.

Pssst, she was known as Grandma Hansen....as opposed to Grandma Reider.

Knowing one's great-grandparents is such a rare gift, and although Lili lost two while an infant, and so closely together, the joy she brought to both of them can't be measured. I know her Greek grandpa thought she was pretty special.
