May Day! May Day!

The annual May Day parade and festival is far more interesting when experienced from outside Mommy's belly. And not just for Lili.

It helps to have a tall Grandma....

...and a strong uncle...

...yummy food for refueling...

...and, eventually, a hot pink stroller, a late afternoon breeze, and bare feet for the meandering stroll back to the car.

Considering the mass of humanity, the 20-foot tall paper mache spider, and the intense ab workout from balancing little drunken sailor legs on a grassy 45-degree incline (all while munching on a snack of bread and cheese), Lili was in amazing spirits during her first official May Day. There was a brief meltdown at the end, but Mommy experienced a similar meltdown (involving food, naturally), so I can't really fault her. Kathryn's neighbors were kind enough to open their backyard (and a bottle of wine) post-festivities, which meant Lil had time to sleep off her sunny day hangover, and I was able to photograph their inspired backyard.

Next year, we make Mama call in sick.
