Cabin Fever

Hello, bloggity blog. It's certainly been awhile, but lest you think I've been shirking my Lil' Log duties and Mommy Friday obligations, rest assured that, in fact, quite the opposite is true. Last Friday was the ultimate of Mommy Fridays, with a 4 1/2 hour road trip to Spring Lake, WI, where we wiled the long weekend away with doggy paddles, Scrabble, failed fishing trips, and gin and tonics. For those unfamiliar with the Midwest (and all her natural glory), Wisconsin is actually quite beautiful (assuming, of course, that you manage to cut a rather large swath around both Green Bay and Milwaukee). Lili seems to have inherited my road trip genes, as she was the epitome of an Easy Rider in both directions, being sufficiently distracted by her toes, her pug sister seat mate, and Mommy playing peek-a-boo in the rear view mirror (while simultaneously keeping a close eye out for WI state troopers, who likely don't respond well to vehicular peek-a-boo). Exhibit A, upon arrival at "the cabin":

Given her adoration of both the bathtub and her front yard kiddie pool, I assumed Lili would immediately break in to a fit of giggles and a round of frenzied splashing when plopped in the lake, but she tended to get anxious if taken off my lap. I suspect it had something to do with the lack of four walls and a confined space. Or the pack of wolves we heard "high-fiving" each other the night before as they prepared for their hunt. Or getting clocked by Athena as she dove after her 522nd stick of the day.

Thank goodness for ice packs. And life vests.

And Mama's long arms, which came in extremely handy when Hektor decided to take the aquatic bull by the horns and fling himself off the edge of the dock. Hektor, who was absent the day they taught dog-paddling to, well, dogs, and spent the entirety of our last cabin trip gnawing on corn on the cob remnants from the safe confines of the woods.

Despite a near pug drowning and a bumped Lil' forehead, we're already planning our fall trip. WI, we heart you and your woodsy, lakey ways.

Love,
J, K, and L

You didn't mention the 6 foot muskie that I caught, dragged into the boat, clubbed, and flayed...or was that a dream?
