Mini Pride

This past weekend was Minneapolis Pride, a.k.a. the one-year anniversary of 4-week old Lillian's first big adventure beyond the confines of our 800-square-foot house. I vacillate between wanting teenage Lili to be one of the high school "it" girls (while still maintaining an astounding level of kindness, book smarts, and athletic prowess, naturally), and wanting her to follow in Mommy's literary magazine, theater geek footsteps, but surely a child who spends a significant part of her childhood surrounded by fake and bake drag queens and twinks in leather holsters is destined for the popular lunch table...right? On the Mom front, we managed to hit Pride events on both Friday AND Saturday night; the week long recovery after said events effectively reminding us why we no longer party like rock stars. Thankfully, Pride comes but once a year, so suck it up moms!

Saturday: Park Day

Mama + Friends. Lili being camera shy.

Lili was a little confused by the large number of portable tents and baby dykes in what is traditionally "her" park (shared by Grandma Kool and Miss Dunn, of course), but was mostly worried about the impact on her squirrel and red-winged blackbird friends. At least the island squirrels were spared from the sloshing beer and cigarette butts.

Falafel sandwich + root beer float + Lili sandwich = Mommy's new annual Pride lunch.

Sunday: Parade and Potluck Day

Best seat in the house.

Saloon! This is the float we anxiously await each year. Gay boys are so over the top.

Drag Queen. At least 110 years old but still workin' it in her skintight gold dress. Heeeeeeyyyyy!

Losing interest. Modeling butch accessories courtesy of MMM.

Lili's peeps.

Cooling off at Grandma's with Corona, avocado sandwiches, and fresh tomatoes. The perfect ending to a Pride-tastic weekend.
